I never would have imagined that I would be able to find Spanish speakers in Jakarta, let alone an association that fosters the usage of the language and the promotion of Ibero-American culture.
I was so excited to find the Spanish Speaking Women Association in Jakarta and quickly got involved in all their activities. They hold monthly coffee mornings hosted by a different country or geographic region. During the coffees, the food is plenty, the entertainment endless and the friendships genuine. Every country brings in a little flavor of their culture and expats and Indonesians alike enjoy remembering their home countries and learning about a new culture.
My kids have also enjoyed being part of the association as they have met other kids that also speak Spanish and have been able to attend playgroups and parties specially catered for the little ones.
From Tequila tastings, and cooking classes, to movie nights and the well-renowned Gala Latina the SSWA, or Asociacion Iberoamericana has allowed me to feel a little bit closer to my roots.
For more information on the Asociacion Iberoamericana visit their website or email info@cshhjakarta.org. I´m sure my dear friends will be happy to give you all the information you need and make you feel like their casa es tu casa!
