As all Jakartans, we were perusing a mall one lazy holiday afternoon. Since we were done playing in Miniapolis and did not really feel like going home just yet, I suggested to my husband we did as the expat ladies do and indulged in a delightful afternoon tea. He hesitantly agreed and since we were in Plaza Indonesia, the closest hotel to us was the Grand Hyatt. I wasn’t sure they had an afternoon tea, but we gave it a shot, anyway.

Gorgeous lobby at the Hyatt
I had never visited the Hyatt before and although my husband had stayed there on a previous work trip we were both pleasantly surprised with the Christmas decor. We were promptly led to the Fountain Lounge where the Afternoon Tea was hosted. As we climbed up the stairs we were happy to see great big windows facing the traffic circle and were pleased to be sited right by the window. Live classical music invaded the atmosphere and we sat down and relaxed as much as we could with a two year old joining us for tea.
So we ordered the Afternoon Tea Set with a price of Rp. 198,000++This is definitely enough for two or three people to share. The set includes two drinks. We ordered a pot of tea to share and the hubby had a wonderful coffee towards the end of our visit. The set included sandwiches, scones, and pastries. Every single one of them was delicious, or so my husband says…. Compared to the tea at the Darmawhangsa hotel, the Hyatt is definitely more westernized. They serve more scones and there are no Indonesian treats. I think I liked the scones at the Hyatt better. The pastries were delicious and the tea variety was delightful.
As we were leaving Evan stopped to visit the musicians. They were very friendly and even played each instrument for Evan.
The Afternoon Tea at the Grand Hyatt is a great option for those wanting to sit down, relax, listen to gorgeous music and enjoy the views of the Jakarta City Center without being stuck amidst it. This place is very kid-friendly and the food will please every picky palate. For about 200,000 rupiahs up to three people can enjoy some great food and a nice break from the city without leaving it.
