A Week in Snapshots

March 25, 2012 in A Week in Snapshots, Expat Life, Family, Jakarta Leave a comment

To bring some order to the chaos that is my blog, I will start a weekly feature to be published every Sunday. Don’t worry, there won’t be that many ramblings about how awesome/awful our life is in Jakarta but rather a small photographic summary about the highlights and happenings of our week. Debuting the week … Continue reading →

La Costeña Por Sabor

March 24, 2012 in Expat Life, Food, Jakarta 7 Comments

A couple of days ago I got an email from the Mexican Embassy in Jakarta informing us that the Mexican company La Costeña had started selling their products in Indonesia. Mexicans all over the world know this brand and trust it to be a simple and flavorful way to add a bit of Mexican flare … Continue reading →

Easter Cereal Treats

March 23, 2012 in Family, Food, Holidays, Kids, Recipes 8 Comments

I’ve been trying to make special treats with holiday themes for the kids. Easter was no exception and I was lucky to find this recipe in my good friend Loren’s blog toddlejoy.com. It’s just a marshmallow cereal treat shaped as an egg. I loved how she used fruity pebbles. They are so colorful and perfect … Continue reading →

Our Favorite Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

March 22, 2012 in Baking, Food, Recipes 4 Comments

As you can probably tell by now, I love to bake. My mom would say that I love to experiment, but I can assure you I have learned from my many mistakes and I usually try to follow a recipe. When I was a teenager I used to substitute cornstarch for corn syrup and you … Continue reading →

y portugués,  inglés y bahasa. I never would have imagined that I would be able to find Spanish speakers in Jakarta, let alone an association that fosters the usage of the language and the promotion of Ibero-American culture. I was so excited to find the Spanish Speaking Women Association in Jakarta and quickly got involved … Continue reading →

Find: Kindyroo Menteng

March 19, 2012 in Family, Jakarta, Kids 8 Comments

When we first moved to Jakarta I was very disappointed to find that the closest Gymboree to our home was an hour away without traffic! I was desperate to find a good place for Evan to continue with his early development classes and I was eager to start the new baby in classes as soon … Continue reading →

It’s not a Fiesta without a Piñata!

March 17, 2012 in Crafts, Family, Holidays, Party 4 Comments

Growing up in Mexico it wasn’t unusual to see a piñata at any party.  In fact, it was rather unusual not to see one, even at office parties or when kids were not the main guests to a party. When we were dating, I gave my husband a small piñata for his birthday. I just … Continue reading →

Getting Ready for Easter

March 14, 2012 in Family, Holidays, Home Decor 4 Comments

Easter is one of my favorite holidays. Not only do I love the significance behind it: Jesus rose from the Grave!!! , but I love the colors and all the neat little accents you can play with. When we lived in Germany, every single department store would display a beautiful array of decorations and lots … Continue reading →

Making Macarons

March 11, 2012 in Baking, Food, Jakarta, Recipes 2 Comments

I love Macarons, in fact I love them so much that I would rather eat macarons than pie, ice cream and cake.  I’ve attempted to make macarons many a time and I’ve utterly failed each time.  Lucky for me, Pantry Magic came to the rescue. Pantry Magic is a cooking and baking supply store in … Continue reading →
