Our Packages are Ready for the World Wide Cultural Exchange

May 3, 2012 in Family, Kids 6 Comments

A few weeks ago we signed up for a great experience, namely the Little Red Farm’s World Wide Cultural Exchange. As I mentioned before here, we were very excited when we found out we were assigned a family in the UK, a kindergarten in Quebec, Canada, a family in Kuala Lumpur and a family in … Continue reading →

Finally, part two of the naked truth of traveling with an infant and a toddler. We’ve already discussed some of the horrors challenges that traveling with a little one and an even littler one entail. Things to do in Surabaya with Kids

April 29, 2012 in Family, Kids, Travel 17 Comments

Don’t believe it when they tell you there’s nothing to do in Surabaya. There’s at least four, yes, FOUR things to do in Surabaya with the kids other than the malls. I know, it doesn’t sound like much but at least despite our 2 week-long trip we managed to entertain the boys and I didn’t … Continue reading →

At Home Abroad

April 22, 2012 in Family, Kids Leave a comment

Today as I was reading about Third Culture Kids I found this great article about a girl who spent part of her developing years in Indonesia: http://www.nytimes.com/2002/10/26/news/26iht-rkid_ed3_.html?pagewanted=all Although it’s an old article (2002), some of the references to Indonesia made me chuckle and I couldn’t help but wonder how many of these experiences will be … Continue reading →

Batu Secret Zoo

April 19, 2012 in Family, Kids, Travel 2 Comments

If you are in Surabaya for a few days, the Batu Secret Zoo is a must see! Although it’s a good two to three-hour drive from Surabaya you won’t regret making the trip. For only 120,000 rupiah per adult for the zoo and the museum (kids get in free), it’s a steal! This zoo has … Continue reading →

Traveling with a Toddler and an Infant Part I: the Good the Bad and the Ugly

April 17, 2012 in Family, Kids, Travel 5 Comments

We’re halfway thru our trip in Surabaya. So far I can say we’ve had a great time despite the temporary setbacks that having a toddler and an infant in the same room entail.  Most of the time I’ve been by myself with the kids as my husband has been working 7-6 every day. Thank God … Continue reading →

Easter at the American Club

April 14, 2012 in Expat Life, Family, Holidays, Jakarta, Kids 1 Comment

As I’ve mentioned before, we try to keep our home traditions and holidays as much as possible. Easter was no exception and we were very lucky to be able to attend the Easter party at the American Club. I only took Evan to the party because daddy was out of town on a business trip … Continue reading →

Find: Epicentrum Walk

April 8, 2012 in Family, Jakarta, Kids, Restaurant Leave a comment

Sometimes living in a concrete jungle has its advantages. The shopping malls tend to be amazing. One of the nicest shopping centers I’ve seen in Jakarta thus far has to be Epicentrum Walk.  I found this little shopping center about two weeks ago as I was attempting to buy tickets for Disney on Ice and … Continue reading →

Little Red Farm Worldwide Cultural Exchange

March 30, 2012 in Expat Life, Family, Kids 6 Comments

We are now taking part of a Worldwide Cultural Exchange where the kids, with the help of mom and dad, prepare a box of things representative of their country and culture and send it to kids elsewhere in the world. In turn, we receive boxes from the same kids we sent packages to and learn … Continue reading →

Five Asian Snacks Your Toddler Will Love

March 29, 2012 in Expat Life, Food, Kids 13 Comments

Evan thinks he’s Asian. He will eat sushi rolls, he’s obsessed with rice and noodles and he has to dip everything in soy sauce or kecip manis. Every time we go back to the US or Mexico he suffers from Asian food withdrawal and we have to at least find some rice from him. Here’s … Continue reading →
