Surabaya: Getting there, Staying there

Surabaya: Getting there, Staying there

April 23, 2012 in Family, Restaurant, Travel 5 Comments

Getting There I can’t complain of my first experience flying alone with the two kids. Although it was a very short flight I was a little bit concerned on how they, or rather I, would deal with it. We flew Garuda Indonesia since we’ve had several bad experiences with Air Asia Indonesia. The service … Continue reading →

A Week in Snapshots:❊16/04/12-22/04/12❊

April 22, 2012 in A Week in Snapshots, Expat Life, Family, Jakarta Leave a comment

We’re back home in Jakarta and all we can say is that we are very grateful for a great week. It was my husband’s birthday on the 19th and we celebrated another wonderful year of his life and thanked God for all his mercies. We are happy to be back home and we have a … Continue reading →

At Home Abroad

April 22, 2012 in Family, Kids Leave a comment

Today as I was reading about Third Culture Kids I found this great article about a girl who spent part of her developing years in Indonesia: http://www.nytimes.com/2002/10/26/news/26iht-rkid_ed3_.html?pagewanted=all Although it’s an old article (2002), some of the references to Indonesia made me chuckle and I couldn’t help but wonder how many of these experiences will be … Continue reading →

Batu Secret Zoo

April 19, 2012 in Family, Kids, Travel 2 Comments

If you are in Surabaya for a few days, the Batu Secret Zoo is a must see! Although it’s a good two to three-hour drive from Surabaya you won’t regret making the trip. For only 120,000 rupiah per adult for the zoo and the museum (kids get in free), it’s a steal! This zoo has … Continue reading →

Traveling with a Toddler and an Infant Part I: the Good the Bad and the Ugly

April 17, 2012 in Family, Kids, Travel 5 Comments

We’re halfway thru our trip in Surabaya. So far I can say we’ve had a great time despite the temporary setbacks that having a toddler and an infant in the same room entail.  Most of the time I’ve been by myself with the kids as my husband has been working 7-6 every day. Thank God … Continue reading →

A Week in Snapshots: ❊9/04/12-15/04/12❊

April 15, 2012 in A Week in Snapshots, Expat Life, Family, Jakarta, Travel Leave a comment

Busy is an understatement for this week! When we were not getting ready to join daddy in Surabaya we were at Kindyroo, an AWA meeting, school or on a plane. We got to Surabaya on Wednesday night and we’ve had a very busy but fun schedule. We will be here for one more week and … Continue reading →

Easter at the American Club

April 14, 2012 in Expat Life, Family, Holidays, Jakarta, Kids 1 Comment

As I’ve mentioned before, we try to keep our home traditions and holidays as much as possible. Easter was no exception and we were very lucky to be able to attend the Easter party at the American Club. I only took Evan to the party because daddy was out of town on a business trip … Continue reading →

Food Find: Cinnamon Rolls by Janice

April 12, 2012 in Expat Life, Food, Jakarta 2 Comments

At the last AWA Social and Shopping a friend introduced me to these delicious cinnamon rolls hand made by a lovely lady named Janice. She has several presentations and sizes and you can even order then without the guilt sugar glaze. We had them at our playgroup and kids and moms enjoyed them. Since we … Continue reading →

10 places every kid should see in the US

April 10, 2012 in Family, Travel Leave a comment

I found this article about the ten places every kid should see in the US. I thought it was very interesting that they don’t only show places to “entertain” kids, but rather to teach them about history and science. I grew up going to Sea World in San Antonio and I would love to take … Continue reading →

Riding the Local Train

April 10, 2012 in Expat Life, Jakarta 8 Comments

We did it, we rode the local train and we survived! It’s not like it’s a huge challenge but when you see people riding on top of the train and lots of crowds it does seem a bit scary.     We decided to do it on a Saturday morning as to avoid the … Continue reading →
